About the Owner
During Lloyd's early career he worked as a tire man for his brother-in-law. When he was in his early twenties he was the manager of "Lamb Tire." Lloyd realized at an early age that he wanted to own his own tire company so there were many incarnations, including "Van's Tire Service" and "Interstate Tire Service" before he finally settled on "Earle's Tire Service of NJ, Inc." in May of 1976. "Earle's" humble beginnings were in a single office trailer first on Neck Road in Burlington, NJ at friend Russell Tooley's Garage; then at the Palmyra Truck Stop, in Palmyra, NJ (across from Kerbeck Cadillac) and the Old Sandman Truck Stop in Bordentown, NJ. To get his business off the ground, Lloyd basically worked "around the clock", working during the day in Palmyra, and then at night, running road service out of the Bordentown trailer while catching naps in his truck on the side of the road. A more determined man there has never been. Working these incredible hours finally took its toll on Lloyd and he wound up in the hospital from exhaustion. It was during this period of time (1978-80) that the decision to buy property in Bordentown first occurred to Lloyd, as the area was already heavily traveled by trucks. However, the first order of business was to expand the employee roster, which Lloyd did by hiring trusted friends and family. By 1984, Lloyd's small business had expanded so much that he had definitely outgrown the office trailers, and moved his main offices to Willingboro, NJ. It was only two short years later, in November of 1986, that Lloyd Van Blarcom, Sr. proudly opened the doors to "Earle's Tire Service of NJ, Inc.'s" main working location at 308 Rising Sun Road, in Bordentown, NJ. With two working tire bays, a dispatch office, the main offices, a tire warehouse and a small fleet of service trucks, it seemed that Lloyd's dreams had finally come true. The addition of a third bay for truck alignments in 1998 was just "icing on the cake". Semi-retired at 59 years old, Lloyd Van Blarcom, Sr. enjoys traveling with his wife of 24 years, Janice (nee Boyer). Lloyd and Janice have 5 children and 9 grandchildren.
On March 11, 2001, Lloyd Van Blarcom, Sr., lost his 5 month battle with Renal Cancer. He died quietly and with dignity surrounded by his family. Lloyd was a force to be reckoned with. His gruff exterior never truly seemed like a match for his "teddy bear" interior, and a more generous man you'll never meet. Lloyd Van Blarcom, Sr. will be sorely missed, but forever remembered.
